Highlight
Day 1: CHIANG KHONG - HUAY XAI - PAKBENG
Your trip begins in the morning with the pickup from your address in Chiang Khong town between 7:00-7:30am. Travelers transfer to the Thailand–Laos border at Chiang Khong before crossing into Huay Xai.
After immigration procedures, you board the traditional slow boat and start cruising down the Mekong River toward Pakbeng.
During the cruise, you will witness:
- Visit remote fishing villages
- Water buffalo along riverbanks
- Dense tropical forests
- Local life on the Mekong
The first day usually takes around 6–7 hours before arriving in Pakbeng for an overnight stay.
Pakbeng is a small riverside village that serves as the main stop between Huay Xai and Luang Prabang. Travelers can enjoy local Lao cuisine, riverside restaurants, and a peaceful atmosphere.
Day 2: PAKBENG - LUANG PRABANG
The second day of the cruise continues deeper into the stunning landscapes of Northern Laos. The scenery becomes even more dramatic with limestone mountains, jungle-covered hills, and peaceful riverbanks.
There will be a stop at the famous Pak Ou Caves, home to thousands of Buddha statues placed by pilgrims over centuries.
By late afternoon (around:30pm), the boat arrives in the UNESCO-listed town of Luang Prabang. The trip ends with the transfer to your hotel in Luang Prabang town area.

Day 1: LUANG PRABANG - PAKBENG

- Your host on the boat can give you suggestions on where to eat in Pakbeng.
- Pakbeng can be very cold from November to January - make sure to have some worm clothes or a jacket
Day 2: PAKBENG - HUAY XAI / THAI BORDER
- Following breakfasts at your hotel, check out and board the Nagi of Mekong for the final leg of Mekong journey, lunch provided on baord and one stol is made at the village along the river before reaching Houy Xai at around 16:30, in time to cross over to the Thai side for you onward journey.
- You wil be transferred to the Lao - Thai border. End of the trip.

Such a nice boat with lovely people feeding and taking care of us. A long lazy day watching the world go by
I do wish the Mekong was cleaner though. The level of rubbish was distressing - but the boat so comfortable. Delightful
